“It runs on just about any computer out there: Windows, Mac, Android, Lunix, iPad and iPhone. It will sync lists from the desktop to your portable devices. And it’s free.

“More importantly, it’s easy to use, streamlined and versatile. Did I mention it was free?”

The program is “Wunderlist”, from 6Wunderkinder based in Berlin, Germany.

I’m tackling Wunderlist today because it recently became Wunderlist 2. There was a lot to like about the first version: It could create multiple lists. Tasks could be dragged and dropped from one list to another. Due dates could be set. Notes could be added to the one-line tasks. Tasks could be moved easily up or down in priority.

The list on the desktop computer could be easily synced to the smartphone — and vice versa — using an account (also free) set up on the 6Wunderkinder website. The website, http://www.6wunderkinder.com, is where Wunderlist can be found.

“Wunderlist 2 is our best and most comprehensive app yet,” said Reber when the revamped version was introduced in December. “It goes beyond a simple to-do list and establishes itself as a trusted daily companion. We have looked at every single element of the original Wunderlist and asked ourselves how can we make it even better. So we started at the very beginning, the very core of what has made Wunderlist a success to date — cross platform, ease of use and a beautiful design. Then we began to rebuild with the highest level of precision that will allow for the continued evolution of Wunderlist.”

Inexplicably, the new version was first released without the ability to print out lists of tasks. What good is a to-do list if you can’t get a list? That’s what users wanted to know, particularly since the earlier version had the ability to print. The developers listened. The print function has been added successfully!

New to this version is the ability to add subtasks to the main task and detailed notes about the task and subtask.

It’s also possible to set up recurring events, but this is where Wunderlist 2 falls a bit short in offers. Once the day or date has been selected, the recurring event is limited to every “day, week, month, or year”, which may be quite a problem for some.

Therefore, cycles like “every other Monday” or the “third Tuesday of the month” aren’t available. Wunderlist’s website (www.6wunderkinder.com) has a section for users of Wunderlist 2 to suggest needed features for a future update. The lack of such cycles has been frequently noticed.

Wunderlist 2 also makes it easy to invite friends, family or colleagues to share in a list. The process can be accessed either through Facebook’s Open Graph, or by typing in an e-mail address to start the list-sharing process, (Don’t worry it’s simple both ways).

Wunderlist is today one of the most popular apps around with 5 stars overall rating. it was named “App of the Year” in Japan; it has been named the “iPhone app of the Week” in 104 countries, a company spokesman said:
No wunder.
